Qualifying for battle of the beasts is by far my biggest achievement thus far. During the 1st qualifier I was all over the place as to whether to have another crack at it or not. I knew I had a good score and must have been checking the leader board at least a dozen times a day in the run up to the deadline. Like previous qualifiers I was just expecting a slew of scores to come in above me – it didn’t happen. Not only did I put in a good score I came 2nd overall for qualifier 1.
I have never experienced anything like this before in being so high up any leader board. I’ve always had to lower expectations and sometimes been quite harsh on myself. The rest of the qualifiers went well and I managed to negotiate a barrage of muscle ups and handstand push ups in the last qualifier. Overall after 3 tough qualifiers I finished 15th and was ecstatic.
In the lead up to the event I’m trying to keep working my weaknesses and draw upon my experiences from the last 2 years. Hopefully in October everything will come together and I can surprise myself and a few others too. It would be great to maintain my qualifying position but for now we will have to wait and see.
It’s very tough to say how I’m going to approach 2017 and qualifiers for competitions. I have changed jobs and my local box is no longer round the corner. As a result my lunchtime training is somewhat different. All I know at the moment is that as long as there is the motivation to achieve something then I’ll find a way to get the job done.
